Ownr Grants (the “Program”) is a $25,000 fund coordinated by RBC Ventures Inc. (“RBC Ventures”).  The Program is designed to provide financial support to Canadian small businesses impacted by and supporting Canadians during the COVID-19 pandemic.  RBC Ventures will provide up to a maximum of $1000 (“Grant”) to each successful Program applicant. 

  • APPLICATION PERIOD.

The Program application period begins April 20, 2020 at 12:01 am EST and ends Friday May 22, 2020 at 8:00 pm EST.  

  • ELIGIBILITY.

To be eligible to receive a Grant, Program applicants must satisfy one of the following criteria and comply with all other Program Terms & Conditions:

Have an existing small business that has been incorporated federally or registered or incorporated in Ontario, Alberta, or British Columbia and has annual revenues of less than CAN$1,000,000 and fewer than 10 employees.

Have a new business idea or venture with plans to register or incorporate a small business in the next 30 days.

  • HOW TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION.  

Please complete the online application available at www.ownr.co/grants. You will be asked to provide information that includes:

  • Contact information including first name, last name, business name, province, and email address.
  • A high-level overview of what your business does (or will do).
  • For existing businesses, a summary of how your business serves, or has pivoted due to COVID-19 to continue to provide its services
  • For new businesses, a brief summary of how your business intends to serve Canadians
  • A brief summary of how your business will use the Grant.


  • EVALUATION CRITERIA.

A selection committee will review all applications on the basis of the criteria noted below and in its sole discretion will select successful applicants and determine the exact amount of the Grant to be awarded to each successful applicant up to a maximum of $1000 for each Grant. 

Evaluation criteria include:

  • The extent to which an applicant provides products or services that address the needs of Canadians impacted by the pandemic (ie. health, education, delivery services, B2B and other businesses supporting those impacted by COVID-19) or the extent to which an applicant’s business has pivoted due to COVID-19 to continue to provide its services
  • The extent to which an applicant has a quality idea or concept for a new business


  • SELECTION OF SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS & AWARDING GRANTS.

Successful applicants will be notified by email no later than June 5, 2020.  Grants will be provided to successful applicants as soon as possible following notification using the payment method agreed upon between the parties. Grant funds will be provided once a successful applicant is able to provide proof that their business has been registered (i.e government-issued business number).

As a condition of accepting a Grant, successful applicants acknowledge that RBC Ventures may require them to sign a release and agree (without further notice or compensation) to the use of their name, business information, and other application information in any publicity or advertisement about the Program issued by RBC Ventures in its discretion.

  • GENERAL TERMS.

By submitting an application, applicants agree to be bound by these terms and by the decisions of the selection committee, which are final and binding in all respects.

RBC Ventures may suspend, amend or cancel the Program or any entrant’s participation in the Program at any time.

Applicants who violate these terms or engage in any conduct that is detrimental to RBC Ventures or its affiliates, the Program or another applicant (determined by RBC Ventures in its sole discretion) are subject to disqualification at any time.

RBC Ventures does not assume any responsibility for incorrect or inaccurate capture of application information, technical malfunctions, human or other technical error.
